    THE WORK

Luminaria is a unique project, conceived by designer Sara Ricciardi and commissioned by Forbicioni Studio for Dolce&Gabbana.

The development and digital modeling of the work was curated by Forbicioni Studio.

The work reinterprets the concept of the curtain with wooden beads, often used in the entrances of homes to create intimacy and generate a relaxing sound when passing by. Inspired by the aesthetics of traditional southern Italian lights, used to decorate towns during the celebrations of patron saints, Luminaria combines tradition and innovation.

    PROJECT DETAILS

Client: Forbicioni Studio for Dolce & Gabbana
    Design: Sara Ricciardi
    Materials: Tabu plywood
    Execution: CAM programming, CNC machining
    Dimensions: 200 x 30 x 290 cm (w x d x h)
    Year: 2023

Made of Tabu plywood, the work was machined with CNC machines to obtain a product faithful to the artist’s project. The beads, some of which are colored plywood, were turned and dyed with a color palette carefully selected by the artist.

Presented at Dolce & Gabbana Casa during Milan Design Week 2023, Luminaria is part of the Gen D – Generation Designer project, an initiative by Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana aimed at supporting young design talents.

Coordinated by Federica Sala, the initiative involved ten international designers, offering them the opportunity to explore new creative ideas in tune with the company’s DNA and Italian artisanal traditions. Luminaria represents a perfect example of this vision, combining creativity, craftsmanship and a celebration of the cultural roots of Southern Italy
